Oreo Pudding Recipe for WAVE Supper

WAVE Parents -

If you are providing dessert for our WAVE Family Night Supper on October 16, please follow this dessert recipe below.  The reason we are doing this is so everyone will get to enjoy a particular dessert and not have all the kids go for one thing and not another.

If you have any questions, let me know!  I would make 1 or 2 each since we will be providing for 100-125 people!

Thanks!

 - Seth

Oreo Pudding:

WAVE Update 9/20

WAVE UPDATE
Here is your update for the week!

1.  This Sunday is YOUTH SUNDAY!  Our WAVE students will be running both early and late services.  If your student is helping out for early, they need to be at the church at 8:05am.  For late, 10:15am.  If they are doing bells for late service, they need to meet with Martha in the sanctuary at 10:00am.  I have also reminded the students of the dress code.  All guys need to wear khakis/black pants, nice shirt, and look "groomed."  For girls, no flip-flops, short skirts, or spaghetti straps.  Skirts need to be knee length.  Please advise your student to look their best!  We will all go out to lunch afterwards so your student will need $.  We will also be having one more practice tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm in the chapel for any student who wants to practice their speaking parts

2.  Next weekend the 18 Hour Famine is here!  I hope your student is excited about this event!  This is our extended edition of movie and game night plus a lock-in at the church:  only catch?  NO EATING FOR 18 HOURS!  Bags will be checked at the door!  I had a student ask me, "How come we are doing something like this?"  The reasoning is simple:  we take what we eat and when we eat for granted every day.  When we are hungry, we simply walk into the kitchen or we go out and get something.  When we were in Haiti, several people we worked with said that usually for them "They don't know when they are going to eat again, so when there is food, we don't miss out!"  We are honoring God by being reminded of how much He has given us.  The event starts at 6:00pm on Friday - pickup at NOON on Saturday (9/27-9/28).  We will have a countdown going for the entirety of our journey in the Fellowship Hall.  Be on time!

3.  Leadership Team Applications are now available and can be picked up in the WAVE game room!  For grades 10-12.  Being on the LT is a great opportunity.  The applications are due on Sunday, September 29.  Our first LT event will be on Saturday, October 5.

4.  Looking ahead - This year Roberta will be offering a Girls Bible Study for both Jr. and Sr. High girls at our home from 6:30-8:00pm every other Thursday.  They will be going through the Book of Ruth and will also be doing "girly" crafts each time they meet.  Please encourage your female student to attend!  This will be a great opportunity for even better friendships to be formed with our WAVE girls! Our address:  412 Beechwood Lane.  Madison, MS 39110.

5.  Lastly, a reminder that the Ski Trip deposit for the Copper Mountain trip next Spring Break is DUE on Monday, October 7.  This is a non-refundable deposit of $100.  Do this quick!  This trip can only hold 30 spots and 10 are already taken!  Make checks out to Grace Chapel and give to Seth anytime.  This trip is for both Jr. & Sr. High students.  Students younger than 13 must have an adult accompany them.  If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Hope to see you all this Sunday as our WAVE students lead us in worshiping our Lord!  Have a great weekend!

WAVE Update 9/13

WAVE UPDATE
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Hebrews 12:1-2

4. Lastly, looking ahead, WAVE will be in charge of Family Night Supper on Wednesday, October 16.  This is where I will need your help for sure!  I need help with parents volunteering for cooking the main meal portion, bringing sides, desserts, drinks, and salad.  Please let me know if you have any ideas on what our main course, if you would like to be the "chief" for the main course and email me back.  Also email me back and let me know if you could help with any sides, etc.

Hope you all have a good weekend and I will see you on the Lord's Day.

WAVE Update 8/16

WAVE UPDATE
Here is your update for the week!

1.  This Sunday night is TRIVIA NIGHT!  Can your student handle the goody bag of surprises?  Trivia night is a lot of fun with review questions from this past semester to see how well your student was listening.  Two teams are formed and after a team gets 5 questions right, each team member gets to get a prize out of the mystery bag.  You never know what could be inside!  We hope to see your student there this Sunday night.

2.  Secondly, our next WAVE Parent's Meeting is next Sunday, August 25 from 4:00-5:00pm in the Media Room.  We will be discussing all plans for the fall and future trips.  Please plan on attending!  This is also Rally Day.

3.  Thirdly, Wednesday WAVE Bible Study starts back next week!  I hope your students are excited!  We will be looking at the Parables of Jesus all semester long!  Ask your student this question to see if they are ready for our Bible Study:  "What is a parable?"  6:00-7:00pm for Jr. High and 7:00-8:00pm for Sr. High.

4.  Fourthly, the new Sunday School curriculum will begin on Sunday, September 8.  We will be going through the book of Ecclesiastes and asking the question, "What are you living for?"  This is one of the main themes in the book and definitely relates to our students.  Please encourage them to attend Sunday School!  9:15-10:15am every Sunday morning.

5.  Lastly, a reminder of the WAVE dress policy for the Fall semester regarding our female students:  I know that wearing t-shirts or tank-tops with the big sides cut out on them are in session, allowing people to see sports bras on the sides and a lot of skin underneath, but I ask that this attire not be worn to Wednesday nights, Sunday nights, or any WAVE function.  If your student is coming to WAVE from a sporting event, please have a t-shirt that they can change into.  I will remind all of our female students of this policy this Sunday night.  We do want to encourage modesty at WAVE and at Grace Chapel.  If female students cannot meet these suggestions, I will provide them with a WAVE t-shirt to wear that night.  If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to talk to me!  We need to be focusing on the Word and not have wandering eyes all throughout lesson times.

Hope you all have a great weekend and I look forward to spending time with your student this Sunday!

Here is your update for the week!

1.  Don't forget that tomorrow we are going on a day trip to the Okatoma River!  Meet at the church at 9:00am.  Please look over the postcard that was sent out in the mail for all trip details.  Students will need money for breakfast and dinner.  Also, there has been a high demand for kayaks.  If your student would like to kayak, it is $10 a student.  Please provide this $10 upfront to me when they arrive tomorrow morning.  Secondly, kayak rental is limited, so not everyone is guaranteed a kayak.  It depends on how many the rental place has available.  We will be back at the church around 6 or 7pm!

2.  This Sunday, August 11, we will be having Sr. Night at WAVE honoring Sidney D'Amico!  Be sure to attend this special event as we celebrate the time we have had with Sidney and pray for her as she begins her next chapter in life at Ole Miss!

WAVE Update 8/2

WAVE UPDATE
Here is your update for the week!

1.  It is hard to believe that summer is already over for our students next week!  Where did the time go?  In order to celebrate "getting back into the swing of things," WAVE will be going down the Okatoma River on Saturday, August 10 in Seminary, MS from 9:00am-6:00pm.  Meet at the church at 9:00am.  Students will need money for breakfast and dinner.  They will also need to pack a lunch and make sure that it is water-proofed.  This is just in case their canoe or kayak flips over!  Definitely don't want to have a soggy lunch!  They will also need a change of clothes, towels, and sunscreen, and preferably water shoes.  Bring all supplies in a back-pack to put in their canoe.  This is a great trip!  Don't miss out!  Pick up at 6:00pm.

2.  Wednesday WAVE Bible Study will start back on Wednesday, August 21st!  This semester we will be looking at the Parables of Jesus!  Don't miss out!  Jr. High meets from 6:00-7:00pm and Sr. High meets from 7:00-8:00pm.

3.  Lastly, a reminder that our next WAVE Parents Meeting is on Sunday, August 25 from 4:00-5:00pm in the Media Room.  Please plan on attending as we discuss our plans for the Fall!  Also be thinking of any comments or feedback from you as the parents and from your students that you might want to share in order to make WAVE even better for your student as we serve the Lord together this Fall!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Ski Trip Information 2014

WAVE Parents -

As you all hopefully heard through email and from excited students last Sunday, WAVE will be going on a Ski Trip to Copper Mountain, Colorado next Spring Break on March 8-12, 2014!

Our WAVEster's are extremely excited about this fun opportunity to see and experience a part of God's creation we normally don't get to see. Even though this trip is over 8 months away, there are some things you need to know to plan ahead and participate in this trip if you are planning on going:

1.  The cost of the trip will be $650 per student.  This cost covers airfare, lodging, breakfast in the hotel, lunch, ski rental, and lift tickets.  This cost does not cover
Snowboarding fee = $11 extra per day (if you or your student would like to snowboard)
Meals at night (students will be allowed to go out to eat each night and explore the village-like setting.  Dinner can be expensive)
Snacks (snacks for in the room, airport, on the way there and back, anytime they are hungry)
Souvenirs (any clothing, bumper stickers, etc., that students would like to buy)

Chaperones will have a discounted price for this trip.  Price is TBD.

2.  Secondly, the trip is for students 13 and older.  If a student is younger than 13, one of their parents must accompany them on this trip.  If you are considering this option, please let me know.

3.  Thirdly, if you are serious about this trip and have several family members excited about going, this is where we need a commitment from you and all involved.  The maximum number for students and parents reserved on this trip is 30Spots will fill up fast!  In order to secure your spot for this trip, I am asking that you please send in a $100 deposit reserving your spot for this trip.  Now some of you may be wondering, why so early?  Why do we need to pay a deposit now?  The main reason is that it is Spring Break week and everything is EXPENSIVE from airlines, parking, etc.  We need to know that you/your student is committed to this trip.  The ski-trip deposit is due by Sunday, October 6.  This is the first Sunday of October.  You of course can pay this deposit as soon as you would like, but the sooner the better in order to reserve your spot.

4.  Lastly, if finances are a concern, the great news is that we have more than 8 months to raise funds!  This is definitely where team work comes in.  As I told the students last week, if they all work hard, then this ski trip could be much less than the initial price!  However, this is up to them and to the Leadership Team.  I would love to see our students excited about reaching a goal of let's say $200 a person and working hard by serving the Lord and their church to get there!  I cant do fundraisers on my own, so I need your help getting them excited about coming up with ideas and then following through.  If you have any fundraiser ideas, please let me know!

In the meantime, talk things over with your student and see if this trip is right for you!  For the deposit money, make all checks out to Grace Chapel.  You can give the deposit money to me anytime!  Hope you all have a great weekend.  Call or text me anytime if you have questions.

WAVE Update 7/12

WAVE UPDATE
"How precious is your steadfast love, O God!  The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.  They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.  For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light."
Psalm 36:7-9

Here's your update for the week to be in the know!

1.  Trip Reminder 1 = Next weekend, on July 19-20, the Sr. High will be going down to Ship Island off the Biloxi Coast!  All signups and payments for this trip are DUE THIS SUNDAY, July 14 by 7:30pm.  All trip participants will have a meeting after WAVE.  They will receive the schedule, packing lists, etc.  Please have payments in on time and have your student attend this meeting.  All Sr. High students received a postcard in the mail this week for payment details, etc.  If you have any other questions, please let me know!  Encourage them to come on this fun trip!

2.  Trip Reminder 2 = On July 26-28, the Jr. High will have "The mini Escape" at Lake Cavalier for the weekend.  All signups and payments for this trip are due on Sunday, July 21.  The cost is $75 per student and $50 per student if they helped with 2 or more fundraisers.  This will be a great trip as well and the theme for the weekend will be "Finding True Strength."  We will be looking at various texts dealing with finding your identity and strength in Christ.  We will also be tubing, going "geocaching," "boot camp" and more!  Jr. High students will receive a postcard in the mail next week!

3.  Lastly, for new students or if you didn't get a chance to do this last time, please register for our WAVE texting service.  This is how you will receive all important updates for events and scheduling.  Text @waveyouth to the number 23559.  Some may have to create a username, others may not.  Once you have done that, you are in.  It literally takes less than 30 seconds!

Hope you all have a great weekend!  A ski trip information email will be sent to you by the end of the day.  Please take a look at it!

WAVE Update 7/5

WAVE UPDATE
Here's your update for the week!  Hope everyone had a great Independence Day!

1.  This Sunday, July 7, WAVE will meet from 5:30-9:00pm for an extended WAVE special.  We will still do our regular meal, games, worship, and a lesson, but afterwards, we will be shooting off some fireworks at the church to close out the Holiday Weekend!  Two things to inform you of:  I have received permission from the Madison Police Dept. to have this event, so we will not be in any violation of the city ordinance laws and secondly, Roberta and I will be the only ones with the matches!  We want to keep this event fun and safe! We will be doing smaller fireworks and may have something bigger towards the end for a finale.  Pickup at 9:00pm.  Hope to see your student there!

2.  Don't forget that next week we are going to a Mississippi Braves Game on Wednesday, July 10 from 6:00-10:00pm.  Meet at the church at 6:00pm.  Students will need around $25 for food and drinks.  Their ticket will be covered by WAVE!  Invite friends!  Drivers for this event are:  Brad Ishee, Courtney Simmons, and Tucker Olander.  If your student is in Sr. High and would like to drive on their own, I must receive notification from you (the parents) informing me that they can drive.  You can text me or call me to let me know that this is ok.

3.  Trip Reminder:  The payment deadlines and signups for the Sr. High Beach Trip to Ship Island on July 19-20 are due next Sunday, July 14.  Please have your students payments in on time.  The trip is $200 if your student helped with one fundraiser/base price and $150 if they helped with two or three.  Make all checks out to Grace Chapel.  I have a record of who helped out with what if you have any questions.  This is a great opportunity and will be a relaxing day on an island off the Biloxi Coast!  Your Sr. High student will also be getting a postcard in the mail next week informing them of the trip.  There will be a meeting on Sunday, July 14 after WAVE for all students attending.

4.  Lastly, stay close to your email this coming up Sunday.  I have a special announcement for the kids and for you as well on Sunday night at WAVE.  Can you handle the suspense?

If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to contact me!  Hope you all have a great Holiday weekend.

WAVE UPDATE
"Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!"
Psalm 135:3

Here's what's coming up in WAVE:

1.  July is here and WAVE has two exciting trips coming up for our students!
On July 19-20, the Sr. High will be going down to Ship Island.  All signup and payments are due by Sunday, July 14.  A postcard will be sent to your student in the mail with all details and information.  There is also info in the WAVE game room.
On July 26-28, the Jr. High will have their very own "mini Escape."  This is our own spin-off from the Great Escape last year.  We will be staying out at Lake Cavalier and will be going out to Twin Lakes on Saturday for the Ropes Course, horseback riding, and more!  Don't miss out!  All signup and payment deadlines are due by Sunday, July 21.  A postcard will be sent to your student in the mail with all details and information.  There is also info in the WAVE game room.
If you have any other questions about these exciting trips, please let me know!

2.  DRIVERS STILL NEEDED!  I have yet to hear back from anyone about helping out with the Mississippi Braves Game on Wednesday, July 10 from 6:00-10:00pm!  Your ticket will be covered by WAVE.  If you are available to help out, please let me know!  This will be a fun/hot/humid event!  I need two extra drivers for this event!

3.  Lastly, WAVE will NOT meet this Sunday due to the Church-wide Picnic at the Self's House.  We hope to see you there!  Picnic starts at 5:00pm and Ultimate Frisbee will be played.

You all will be getting the July Calendar next week in the mail and over email as well in the WAVE Update.  If you need anything, just give me a call!  Hope everyone has a great weekend!  See you Sunday.

WAVE Update 6/21

WAVE UPDATE
Greetings WAVE Parents!  Hope you are looking forward to the weekend!  Here is the latest WAVE news for you to be in the know:

1.  Don't miss out tomorrow night with our next Movie and Game Night: Part 6 from 5:00-11:00pm!  These events are always fun!  Meet at the church, dinner provided.  We will be playing Capture the Flag, a new game called Landmine, Sardines, watching a movie, and more!  Tell your student to invite friends!  Be sure to bring outdoorsy clothes and good running shoes because we will be active for sure!  Hope to see everyone there.

2.  Secondly, due to the Rafting Trip expenses and my summer Hebrew class starting next Monday, the Sr. High Beach Trip to Pensacola has been cancelled.  HOWEVER, before anyone gets upset, we will still be going to the beach!  On July 19-20, the Sr. High will be going to Ship Island off the coast of Mississippi in the Gulfport/Biloxi area.  We will be leaving on Friday afternoon and will return late Saturday night.  I needed to shorten the trip a day for class attendance issues - so I had to push things back.  I hope this alternative will still be exciting for your student!  If you have never been to Ship Island, it is an extremely cool and relaxing place.  Cost will be $200 a person if your student helped out with 1 fundraiser/base price and $150 if your student helped with 2-3 fundraisers.  Students will also need an additional $100 for meals, souvenirs, etc.  More details will be discussed as we get closer to sign up and payment deadline.  Signup and payment deadlines for this trip will be on Sunday, July 14.  Be sure to tell your student to sign up and invite friends!  If you have any other questions, please let me know!  I will be making the announcement this Sunday night at WAVE to our students as well.

3.  DRIVERS NEEDED:  On Wednesday, July 10, WAVE will be going to a Mississippi Braves Game.  I will need 2 drivers to help with this event.  Your ticket will be paid for as compensation for helping!  Please email me back and let me know if you can help for this event!  Hours for this event are from 6:00-10:00pm.

4.  Lastly, WAVE will be cancelled on Sunday, June 30 due to the Church-wide picnic at the Self's house starting at 5:00pm.  Let's all plan on attending this fun event with our church family!

If there are any other questions about anything, don't hesitate to email me or give me a call!  I look forward to seeing your student tomorrow night!
